How did you hear about our organization?
The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle has been a generous supporter of the Tidewell Foundation for the past three years. Your organization has also assisted us with volunteer efforts, such as stuffing summer camp backpacks and wrapping holiday gifts for children in the Blue Butterfly program.
What do you believe we can provide your organization?
The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle can help make mental health care accessible to bereaved children. By supporting the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Program, all the services the program provides can remain free to families. Any additional opportunities to partner on volunteer initiatives throughout the year is also deeply appreciated.
What will the grant be used for?
This grant will be used to support the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Program. Blue Butterfly is designed for children, ages 4 to 18, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. In our area, 1 in 11 children will lose a parent or sibling by the time they are 18. Without appropriate support, bereaved children may experience various adverse behavioral responses. These can encompass depression, anxiety, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, drop in academic performance, and in severe cases, even suicide. Children receive therapeutic interventions and peer-to-peer interactions, facilitated by master’s level counselors. Caregivers also participate in group sessions to learn how they can help their child grieve. Individual and family sessions, led by mental health professionals, are available to families.
Children who complete the Blue Butterfly program are equipped with the ability to recognize and openly discuss their emotions, as well as speak confidently about their grief. Through Blue Butterfly, children learn how to process their grief and cope with life’s challenges. Ultimately, children avoid negative outcomes stemming from unresolved trauma

This grant will impact approximately 25 children and 20 caregivers who attend the bi-weekly group support sessions. This equates to an estimated financial impact of $111 per person.
