All Faiths Food Bank (AFFB) was invited to apply for the grant in 2025.
What do you believe we can provide your organization?
We value grant relationships that extend beyond financial support. The BackPack Program offers meaningful opportunities for engagement, particularly through hands-on volunteer experiences. Members of The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle are warmly invited to participate in a day of service assembling backpacks at our warehouse, where volunteers directly prepare the bags distributed to local children.
We also welcome your participation in the Campaign Against Summer Hunger Walk, which supports initiatives that ensure children have access to food when school meals are unavailable in summer. These opportunities allow your members to see firsthand the impact of your collective generosity and deepen your connection to the children and families you are helping.
What will the grant be used for?
For many children, weekends and school holidays mean uncertainty about their next meal. The BackPack Program addresses this gap by providing discreet, child-friendly bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food that children take home on Fridays or before school breaks.
In Sarasota County, nearly 20% of children experience food insecurity. In rural DeSoto County, that number rises to 25.1%. Without reliable access to food, children are more likely to struggle with concentration, attendance, and overall health and well-being.
We are respectfully requesting a $5,000 grant to support the purchase of food for the BackPack Program. Unlike other AFFB initiatives, the BackPack Program relies exclusively on purchased food to ensure consistency, nutritional quality, and child-appropriate selections. Each backpack contains low-sodium, low-sugar, and allergen-conscious items designed to provide balanced breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.
Each backpack costs $5 to assemble and distribute. Your investment would provide 1,000 weekends of food for children in our community, ensuring they return to school nourished, focused, and ready to learn.

What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?
A $5,000 grant will provide 1,000 backpacks — enough to ensure 27 children receive nutritious food every weekend throughout the school year.

During the 2025–2026 school year, AFFB projects distributing backpacks to 6,321 children attending schools and childcare centers in Sarasota County.

The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle will be recognized in a “Good Deeds” social media post celebrating your support of the BackPack Program.
