How did you hear about our organization?

JoshProvides is a prior grant recipient through The Giving Challenge (see above).

What do you believe we can provide your organization?

In addition to a grant to support individuals in Lakewood Ranch who have epilepsy with transportation and medication assistance, The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle offers an opportunity to dispel the myths and misconceptions regarding epilepsy and seizures and bring about expanded awareness of this neurological disorder that impacts 1 in 26 people.

What will the grant be used for?

The $2,500 that JoshProvides is requesting from The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle will provide access to anti-seizure medications for 2 individuals and transportation to 3 individuals.

Provide the grant amount you are seeking: $2,500.00

Do you provide services to Sarasota and/or Manatee County? Yes

What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?

When someone is diagnosed with epilepsy in the state of Florida, they are prohibited from driving for six months. This prohibition directly affects their ability to perform daily activities, such as going to work and school, errands, grocery shopping, etc. The most serious consequence is that they cannot get to vital medical appointments including diagnostic testing (EEG, MRI) which enable them to manage their epilepsy and get the appropriate treatment. In addition, the cost of anti-seizure medication is extremely high, and many people, even those with insurance, still have high out-of-pocket costs for their medication.

When the $2,500 from The Lake Club Women’s Circle is matched by a leveraged grant of $2,500 from the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation, the $5,000 will provide access to a total of 8 individuals in the region with 14 grants.
The breakdown of grants provided to individuals will be:
Transportation: 8 individuals, 12 grants
Medication assistance: 2 individuals, 2 grants

Please provide the estimated number of women, children and families impacted.

Women: 4
Children: 2
Families: 7

Note: These numbers include the entire family units of the people with epilepsy.

Is there a matching grant? Yes If yes, indicate donation source: Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation

May we tour your facility? No
