How did you hear about our organization?
Online
What do you believe we can provide your organization?
We believe that your support will significantly enhance the safety and operational efficiency of our organization through the acquisition of handheld VHF marine radios. These radios are essential tools that enable reliable, immediate communication among staff, particularly during on-the-water programming where safety is our top priority.
What will the grant be used for?
Sarasota Youth Sailing (SYS) respectfully requests funding from the Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle to purchase 10 handheld VHF marine radios for our program. These radios are critical for communication between coaches on the water, coordination with staff on land, and, when necessary, communication with sailors.
To ensure the highest level of supervision and engagement, SYS discourages the use of personal cell phones during programming except in emergencies, allowing coaches to remain fully focused on participants. Radios provide instant, dependable communication without the delays associated with phone calls.
Currently, SYS does not have a sufficient number of radios to equip all staff and part-time coaches. This need becomes especially urgent during our Summer Camp season, our busiest time of year, when we serve over 300 sailors. Adequate communication equipment is essential to maintaining a safe and well-coordinated environment.

Provide the grant amount you are seeking: $2,400.00
Do you provide services to Sarasota and/or Manatee County? Yes
What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?
SYS serves more than 500 children annually through its various programs and employs over 15 part-time and 3 full-time staff members who facilitate these activities. Each radio costs $240, and equipping all coaching staff represents a significant financial investment for our nonprofit organization.
This grant would directly offset these costs, allowing us to allocate resources more effectively while ensuring that all staff are properly equipped to maintain safe and efficient program operations.
Please provide the estimated number of women, children and families impacted.
This project will directly benefit more than 500 children who participate in SYS programs each year. In addition, it will positively impact their families by enhancing the safety measures in place to protect their children during all on-the-water and land-based activities.
