How did you hear about our organization?
I was introduced to your organization by Nicole Britton with The Twig.
What do you believe we can provide your organization?
We would welcome the opportunity to expand our partnership in several meaningful and engaging ways that directly support children and families in foster care.
One opportunity would be to host an annual donation drive, designed as a community-centered event such as a “baby shower”-style gathering. This approach creates an inviting and relational environment where participants bring essential items—such as diapers, wipes, clothing, and baby supplies—which are then used to stock our FosterCARE packages. These packages are delivered to children at the moment they enter foster care, helping meet immediate, tangible needs during a time of transition and uncertainty.
Another impactful option would be organizing a focused pajama drive. Pajamas are one of our most consistently needed items, and a dedicated drive would provide comfort and dignity to children entering care, many of whom arrive with very few personal belongings.
Additionally, we offer hands-on volunteer opportunities through our monthly Kids’ Day Out events, held in Sarasota and Venice. These events provide three hours of respite for foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers while trained volunteers care for and engage with children. Volunteers serve in a supportive role alongside experienced lead teachers, and all participants complete a background check and a brief trauma-informed training. These experiences not only directly support families but also allow volunteers to gain a deeper understanding of the foster care community and its needs.
Each of these opportunities—donation drives, targeted item collections, and volunteer engagement—provides a meaningful way to mobilize community support, meet critical needs, and strengthen the network of care surrounding vulnerable children and the families who serve them.
What will the grant be used for?
This grant will directly support our FosterCARE Package delivery program, which provides immediate, tangible assistance to caregivers within 24 hours of receiving a referral for a child entering foster care. These packages are designed to meet urgent needs during a time of crisis and transition, ensuring that both the child and caregiver feel supported from the very beginning.
In addition to initial placements, this funding will also help provide “special initiative” packages for caregivers who are in particularly challenging seasons. This may include school uniforms at the start of the academic year, meals during times of illness or overwhelm, or essential supplies such as diapers and formula. Each of these efforts is aimed at reducing the financial and emotional burden on families who have said “yes” to caring for children who are not their own.
Every FosterCARE Package is thoughtfully curated with all new items to help restore dignity and provide comfort. Packages typically include two pairs of pajamas, two outfits, socks, underwear, new shoes, hygiene items, culturally appropriate and ethnic hair care products, school supplies, a blanket, towels, comfort items, and diaper bags when applicable. Each package also includes a resource folder filled with local support services, as well as a small gift of encouragement for the caregiver.
Through this program, we are able to respond quickly, meet critical needs, and come alongside families in a practical and compassionate way—helping ensure that children entering foster care experience care, dignity, and stability from their very first moments in placement.

Do you provide services to Sarasota and/or Manatee County? Yes
What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?
Each FosterCARE Package costs approximately $200–$250, depending on the age and specific needs of the child. Through this funding, we anticipate directly serving 30–35 children entering foster care.
Please provide the estimated number of women, children and families impacted.
The impact extends far beyond the 30-35 individual children. With an average household size of five, this program will positively affect approximately 165 individuals when considering the entire family unit. Caregivers, biological children, and other household members all experience the relief and support that comes from having immediate, tangible needs met during a time of transition.
While these numbers help quantify reach, the true impact is deeper and more difficult to measure. When foster families feel seen, supported, and equipped, they are more likely to continue saying “yes.” In many cases, after a child leaves their home, these same families choose to keep their doors open to another child in need because they know they are not alone. They trust that Foster the Family will continue to come alongside them with practical support and encouragement.
In this way, the impact of each package multiplies—extending beyond a single placement to influence the long-term sustainability of foster homes in our community.
