Our History & Legacy – OLD

Founded in 2014 by Barbara Najmy and 14 founding members, the organization began as The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle— in the growing Lake Club community, a small group of like-minded women who came together to build friendships, learn from one another, and pool their resources to make a meaningful difference for those in greatest need within the Sarasota and Manatee Communities

Our philanthropic journey began through the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund at the Manatee Community Foundation, where we established our roots and embraced a culture of collective giving. As our membership, community partnerships, and philanthropic impact grew, so did our vision.

In 2021, we began building the infrastructure necessary to support that vision. Guided by the dedication of our members and leaders, we strengthened our governance, expanded our outreach, and prepared for the next chapter in our organization’s evolution.

With the achievement of independent 501(c)(3) status, The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle became The Lake Club Women’s Charitable Foundation—a name that reflects both our growth and our enduring commitment to serving women, children, and families throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

Today, our Board of Directors and members are honored to build upon the strong foundation established by our founding members. While our name has evolved, our purpose has remained constant: women coming together to learn, lead, give, and inspire one another.

Our history is more than a timeline of milestones—it is a living legacy. From the fourteen women who first gathered with a shared vision to the dedicated leaders, members, volunteers, and community partners who continue to advance our mission today, each has contributed to a story of generosity, friendship, and service that continues to strengthen our community and inspire future generations.

We invite you to join our journey – and join our legacy.
