Mission Statement
Teen Court creates a second chance for young people who are at risk of having a criminal record. Teens help teens to make healthy choices through meaningful consequences, peer mentorship and civic engagement.
How did you hear about our organization?
Former grant recipient and our organization’s former COO, Lori Moran, first learned about the program through the Valentine Event at Clive Daniel Home and through word of mouth. In addition, our current board member, Katy McBrayer-Lynch, knows Barbara Najmy through the real estate community and offers her unique perspective as a successful alumna of our services.
What do you believe we can provide your organization?
We deeply value the impact that strong community partnerships can create. The women of the TLC Giving Circle could mentor our youth, broaden awareness of our organization, and gain a firsthand look at our programs through a tour. We would be honored to welcome you to our Annual Awards Dinner, where you can connect with our youth and hear how they have persevered through challenges that may have otherwise limited their college or career opportunities. Your powerful platform and potential support would help reduce barriers for our families, whether by covering service costs, providing a new pair of shoes, court-appropriate clothing, or essential school supplies.
What will the grant be used for?
Grant funding will directly benefit our Camp X-2 Program, an intervention opportunity for middle school–aged youth who have failed an initial drug screening or have been referred to Teen Court because of a drug-related offense. As part of the program, participants take part in a jail tour that offers an eye-opening look at where risky decisions can lead. Through this experience, we aim to encourage youth to recognize the long-term impact of their choices, make positive changes, and build a path away from substance use and involvement with the justice system.

What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?
The impact of this funding will allow approximately 33 youth to participate in our Camp X-2 program through scholarships. The program gives middle school–aged clients referred to Teen Court for drug-related offenses a firsthand look at the realities and consequences of incarceration, with the goal of discouraging harmful behaviors and inspiring healthier, more positive choices for their future (33 youth x $75 = $2,475).

The estimated number of children and families who will be directly served by this project in Sarasota and/or Manatee County is approximately 33 youth and 33 families. This funding will provide scholarships for 33 middle school–aged participants to attend Teen Court of Sarasota, Inc.’s Camp X-2 program. By supporting these youth, the project will also directly benefit their families, resulting in an estimated 33 youth and 33 families directly impacted.

We feature a Partners tab on our website with scrolling logos of our supporters, where your logo would be proudly displayed. We can also prepare a press release to share with local media outlets and highlight the collaboration across our social media platforms. In addition, we would be honored to recognize the TLC Women’s Giving Circle as one of our supporters at our Annual Awards Dinner, which takes place each March at Michael’s on East, through a PowerPoint slide and event signage.
