What do you believe we can provide your organization?

A $5,000 grant from The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle will provide essential art supplies and materials for the Herrig Center for the Arts’ youth programs. Art education is inherently hands-on and materials-intensive. Every painting, drawing, clay project, sculpture, and mixed-media experience requires supplies that must be continually replenished.
Your contribution will put quality art materials directly into the hands of children and teens, giving them the tools to experiment, learn new techniques, express themselves, build confidence, and experience the pride of creating original artwork. TLC’s support will help Herrig continue providing meaningful, high-quality creative experiences while keeping youth arts programming accessible to families throughout our community.

What will the grant be used for?

The Herrig Center for the Arts requests $5,000 exclusively to purchase art supplies and consumable materials for youth arts education programs serving children and teens in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Funds will support materials used in KidsArt Summer Camp, year-round youth classes and workshops, After-School Art Labs, teen programming, and youth outreach activities. Purchases may include paints, brushes, canvases, drawing and watercolor paper, pencils, markers, pastels, clay, glazes, printmaking materials, mixed-media materials, and other age-appropriate supplies.
Students at Herrig do not simply observe art. They paint, draw, sculpt, design, experiment, and create original works under the guidance of experienced teaching artists. These materials are essential to providing engaging, hands-on visual arts experiences.
One hundred percent of the $5,000 grant will be used for youth art supplies and consumable materials. No grant funds will be used for salaries, administration, advertising, fundraising, or capital expenses.

Do you provide services to Sarasota and/or Manatee County?
Yes

What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?

The full $5,000 grant will directly offset the cost of art supplies and consumable materials required to deliver Herrig’s youth arts programming. By purchasing supplies centrally, Herrig can provide students with the materials they need to participate fully without requiring families to purchase extensive individual supply lists or increasing program costs to cover materials.
TLC funding will purchase supplies that can be used across multiple youth classes, camps, workshops, and outreach activities. This creates a multiplier effect in which a single investment supports hundreds of individual creative experiences throughout the grant period.
With more than 700 youth served annually, a $5,000 investment represents approximately $7 in direct art materials for every participating child or teen.

Please provide the estimated number of women, children and families impacted.

Herrig serves more than 700 youth each year through KidsArt Summer Camp, year-round youth classes and workshops, After-School Art Labs, teen programming, school partnerships, exhibitions, and outreach. Anything else you would like to share with us?

For nearly 90 years, the Herrig Center for the Arts has helped children discover what is possible when they are given the opportunity and tools to create. Today, Herrig serves more than 700 children and teens annually through camps, classes, workshops, exhibitions, and outreach. Our reach extends beyond the Center through our longstanding partnership with the School District of Manatee County and collaborations with other schools and community organizations.
For children, making art is about much more than completing a painting or sculpture. In the creative process, they learn to focus, make decisions, solve problems, try again when something does not work, and take pride in what they accomplish. Art also gives young people a positive way to express themselves, connect with others, and develop confidence in their own ideas and abilities.
These experiences can also support success in school. National research has found that young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are highly engaged in the arts tend to have stronger academic outcomes, including better grades, higher graduation and college enrollment rates, and greater involvement in their schools and communities. Research with low-income and diverse students has also linked arts participation with school readiness, emotional development, and academic achievement.¹ ² ³
The impact can be especially meaningful for a child who may not excel in a traditional academic setting. Art provides another place to succeed. A child can discover a talent, see an idea become something tangible, have artwork displayed for others to see, and hear, perhaps for the first time, “You are good at this.” Those experiences can build confidence that carries into the classroom, friendships, and other areas of life.
All of this begins with access to the basic tools to create. Paint, clay, canvas, paper, brushes, and drawing materials become tools for learning, exploration, communication, and self-expression. A $5,000 investment from The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle will put these tools directly into the hands of more than 700 local children and teens, helping Herrig provide creative experiences that support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
