Mission Statement

The mission of Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice is to serve and empower individuals and families in need, regardless of race, nationality, or creed, by providing compassionate and comprehensive care connection of social services rooted in the values of Catholic social teaching.

How did you hear about our organization?

Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice was made aware of The Lake Club Women’s Charitable Foundation when researching local foundations via a Google search.

What do you believe we can provide your organization?

The Lake Club Women’s Charitable Foundation (TLCWCF) can provide direct, comprehensive support that helps a mother and her young children move from homelessness toward long-term stability. Funding would underwrite the full cost of one family’s participation in Our Mother’s House for one month, including housing, utilities, case management, counseling, childcare, life-skills education, and essential supplies.

This support is particularly valuable because it addresses more than the immediate need for shelter. By providing a safe and stable home alongside intensive support services, TLCWCF’s investment allows mothers to concentrate on securing employment, pursuing education, developing parenting and financial-management skills, addressing mental health needs, and preparing for independent housing. The combination of these services helps families overcome the interconnected barriers that contribute to homelessness and reduces the likelihood of returning to housing instability.

In practical terms, TLCWCF’s support would provide one family with an entire month of stability and the resources needed to continue progressing toward self-sufficiency. It would help ensure that a mother and her children have a safe place to live while she works toward the goals established through case management. Over time, this type of comprehensive support can help families transition from transitional housing into stable, independent living and create a stronger foundation for their children’s future.

What will the grant be used for?

Our Mother’s House (OMH) provides safe, stable transitional housing and wraparound support services for homeless single mothers and their young children, ages 0-3. The program offers 21 fully furnished apartment units, with WiFi and utilities included, creating a secure environment where families can begin rebuilding their lives. Participants are able to live at OMH for up to 2 years, with an average successful stay of 17.6 months. Beyond housing, OMH provides a full range of services designed to address the complex barriers faced by single mothers, including intensive case management, life skills and parenting classes, on-site childcare, and access to licensed mental health counseling. These services are designed to empower mothers with the tools they need to achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

The requested funds will directly support one family for one month by covering the cost of their housing, utilities, case management, counseling, life skills classes, childcare, and related supplies. This investment not only provides immediate stability but also allows mothers to focus on education, employment, and personal growth without the constant threat of homelessness. By meeting both the immediate and long-term needs of vulnerable families, OMH ensures that mothers and their children have the opportunity to thrive and break the cycle of poverty. The requested funds will directly support the essential services that enable these families to transition to stable, independent living.

Provide the grant amount you are seeking: $2,500.00

Do you provide services to Sarasota and/or Manatee County?
Yes

What is the financial impact per individual/program this grant will provide?

A $2,500 grant from The Lake Club Women’s Charitable Foundation (TLCWCF) will directly support one household of two to three individuals consisting of a mother experiencing homelessness and one or two infant or toddler-aged children. The grant will help cover the costs associated with one month of comprehensive support at Our Mother’s House (OMH), including safe transitional housing, utilities, case management, mental health counseling, childcare, life-skills education, and essential supplies.

For the supported family, this investment provides more than a temporary place to stay. It gives a mother the stability and support necessary to focus on securing employment, pursuing education, building savings, strengthening parenting skills, improving mental health, addressing personal barriers, and preparing for permanent housing. At the same time, her young children benefit from a safe, consistent home environment during a critical period of early development. By removing the immediate pressure of homelessness, the family can focus on building the skills, resources, and stability needed for a successful transition to independent living.

The grant will also have a meaningful financial impact on the overall OMH program. OMH serves approximately 86 individuals across 40 households each year with a comprehensive network of support services. A $2,500 contribution helps offset the substantial costs of providing housing and wraparound services, allowing program resources to remain available for families throughout the year. Because OMH provides services such as professional case management, counseling, childcare, classes, utilities, and essential household support in addition to housing, philanthropic funding is essential to sustaining the program’s comprehensive approach. TLCWCF’s investment will therefore provide immediate, tangible assistance to one family while helping OMH continue providing the level of support families need to achieve lasting stability.

Please provide the estimated number of women, children and families impacted.

The program annually supports 40 households consisting of 86 individuals in Sarasota County. This grant would serve one household consisting of one woman and up to two children.

Anything else you would like to share with us?

Our Mother’s House (OMH) provides more than a safe place to stay: it gives homeless mothers and their young children the time, stability, and support necessary to build a different future. Many of the mothers served by OMH have experienced domestic violence, mental health challenges, financial hardship, or other significant life circumstances that contributed to their housing instability. These experiences can create multiple, interconnected barriers to achieving and maintaining safe, permanent housing.

For a mother caring for an infant or toddler, homelessness compounds these challenges, making it difficult to maintain employment, pursue education, secure childcare, and address the circumstances that led to her housing crisis. OMH provides a safe and supportive environment where mothers can begin addressing these challenges without the constant uncertainty of where their family will sleep. Through case management, counseling, childcare, life-skills education, and stable housing, mothers receive the individualized support necessary to rebuild their lives.

Ray’s story is a gleaming example of how OMH helps transform the lives of the families we serve. Ray entered OMH from homelessness last September. She was quickly able to find full-time work, go back to school to pursue her passion for baking, enroll her daughter in childcare, enroll in therapy, access life-skills classes to learn how to manage her finances, improve her parenting, and so much more. Now that Ray has been in the program for a year, she is thriving and building a strong future for her and her daughter. But what Ray says is the greatest outcome that has come out of being at OMH is that her daughter recognizes it as her home.
