Mission Statement

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

How did you hear about our organization?

Lake Club’s connection to the Clubs via annual holiday giving to members in need.

What do you believe we can provide your organization?

The agency desires to build upon the existing positive relationship that has been established between the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County and the Lake Club.
Financial investment and volunteer investment enhance program quality and expand opportunities for club members.

What will the grant be used for?

The agency is seeking investment to assist club members through two avenues.

A. YOUTH OF THE YEAR PROGRAM – Provide professionally appropriate clothing to the Youth of the Year finalist from each club. The agency now has seven club locations, with two clubs (DeSoto & Palmetto) also serving teenage members. A total of nine outfits would be purchased (7 for youth members and two for teen members). The Youth of the Year are celebrated at an annual dinner that showcases our finalists and builds to announcing the teen member who will represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County throughout the community and at the state competition to name the Florida Youth of the Year. The agency seeks professional outfits for our teen finalist and a bit more formal clothing for the Jr. Youth of the Year finalist so they can shine extra bright when they are recognized in front of their families, teachers, and friends during the annual dinner.

The primary purpose of this program is to inspire and reward members to become their best selves. The Youth of the Year (and Jr. Youth of the Year) provides needed recognition to youth and teen members who are doing the right thing. Doing the right thing includes: improving your academics, improving your written and oral communication skills, staying away from risky behaviors, standing up for others in need, and participating/volunteering in club and community.

B. UNMET CLOTHING & HYGIENE NEEDS – Throughout the year, club staff consistently discover club members who need appropriate clothing, shoes, and personal hygiene products. These problems are typically present as kids are growing and maturing, and the family lacks the financial means to stay ahead of the needs of their growing children. 86% of club members qualify for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program, and 97% of club families are within or below the United Way’s ALICE definition (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed).
