How was the money used?
In December 2023, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota was privileged to receive a generous $1,400 donation from the Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle, designated for purchasing two refrigerators for local homeowners. With your support, we were able to provide this essential appliance to two low-income families—both single mothers with children aged 1 to 12. Your contribution has made a profound difference, greatly enhancing their quality of life and bringing much-needed comfort and stability to their homes. The families are profoundly grateful for your kindness and the positive impact it has had on their daily lives.
We were thrilled to welcome home both Skylar and Sullyanne to their new homes. May their home be filled with countless treasured memories and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
Sullyanne’s Story:
Sullyanne, a single mom raising two young daughters, encountered some life challenges that resulted in her being on her own. Regrettably, life threw her an unexpected curveball when her affordable apartment was flooded, resulting in the loss of all their belongings. With no other viable options or available resources, Sullyanne made the difficult decision to move in with her parents into their small, two-bedroom home where she and her daughters shared a single bedroom.
Last Christmas, her daughter asked for a play kitchen, but providing the play kitchen for Christmas was not practical. Sullyanne is thrilled that she and her girls now have their very own REAL kitchen.
Skylar’s Story:
Skylar, a devoted single mother to her 8-year-old and 1-year-old boys, juggles the responsibilities of parenthood while working full-time as a project coordinator at a flooring store. Struggling to make ends meet, she was barely managing to cover her $2,000 monthly rent, leaving no room in her budget for another increase.
The fear of facing homelessness again takes Skylar back to her childhood, where memories of calling a hotel or even the streets home haunt her. Forced to grow up quickly, she took on the responsibility of raising her younger sister and worked tirelessly to break free from the generational cycle of poverty.
Wanting more for her family’s future and longing to provide stability for her boys through homeownership, she sought out Habitat Sarasota. Skylar recently completed her 200 hours of sweat equity and Pathway to Homeownership classes and shared that she gained a tremendous amount of confidence in herself and knowledge about being a homeowner through our program.
