How was the money used?
The funds were used to provide 30 tutoring sessions (27 individual and 3 group-based) serving a total of 9 students, ranging from 2 to 5 sessions each.

This grant was a great opportunity for nine students in our current Future Leader Academy cohort. Most of our seniors aspire to obtain the Bright Future Scholarship. One of the requirements for this scholarship is to achieve the minimum scores to be considered eligible for either the FLA Academic scholarship or the FLA Medallion scholarship. One of our students had taken the ACT and scored 28, which is too low to qualify for the Florida Academic Scholarship. Thanks to the support of the Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle, we were able to provide her with tutoring, which gave her the skills and knowledge to improve her next ACT attempt. This time, she scored 34, which is 5 points above the minimum requirement. As this was the only requirement that she was missing, she is now eligible for the scholarship!
Another student attended tutoring to build confidence in speaking English. The tutor worked on her listening and speaking skills, and she demonstrated more fluidity in conversation after receiving the services. She was able to present an independent project to a group of students with confidence!

We had a total of nine FLA students participating in this grant.

Five out of the nine participating students were from Sarasota High Schools and four from Manatee High Schools.
