How was the money used?

Our original grant application requested support for donor management software. However, the $750 grant awarded by the Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle was provided as unrestricted funding rather than being designated for that specific project. We therefore utilized the funds as unrestricted operating support to sustain our permanent supportive housing program for 86 formerly homeless men and women living with mental illnesses across 14 homes in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

The funding supported areas of greatest need, including daily Care Management, resident support, home maintenance and repairs, furnishings, and other essential operating expenses.

Was there an unexpected benefit or a special outcome from this grant that you would like to share? Yes

If yes, please explain:

Since our initial grant application, Second Heart Homes has grown from 12 residences serving 68 individuals to 14 residences serving 86 individuals. Thanks to the support of our community, including the Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle, we were able to expand our program and provide permanent supportive housing, individualized support, and community to 18 additional men and women during the grant period.

The unrestricted nature of the grant was especially valuable because it allowed us to direct funding where it was most needed as our organization and resident population grew.

86 formerly homeless adults living with mental illnesses were supported through Second Heart Homes’ permanent supportive housing program during the grant period.
