How was the money used?
In December 2024, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota was honored to receive a $2,000 grant from The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle. This gift provided three washers and three dryers for three families (four adults, and five children) enhancing their daily lives with essential home necessities. The grant significantly improved each family’s quality of life. These appliances are more than just conveniences; they represent a fresh start, easing household burdens and creating a foundation for a brighter future.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Lake Club Women’s Giving Circle for their unwavering commitment to building stronger communities through safe, affordable housing.
Measurable outcomes:
• Provide income-qualified, low-income families with a 0% interest mortgage, ensuring their total monthly housing payment (including insurance and taxes) remains at or below 30% of their gross monthly income.
• Qualifying homeowners contribute at least 200 hours of sweat equity and complete a HUD-certified 8-hour First-Time Homebuyer class, along with a one-on-one counseling session with a HUD-approved counselor.
• Homeowners participate in the required Pathway to Homeownership program, which includes educational classes that equip them with essential tools for success. Topics covered include financial literacy, estate planning, homeowner’s insurance, mortgage documents, homestead exemption, home maintenance, and hurricane preparedness.
• Homeowners enjoy the convenience of having a washer and dryer in their homes, saving valuable time, energy, and money by eliminating the need to travel for laundry.
