How was the money used?

The $3,000 was used to purchase the items for the BackPack Program in Sarasota County. The cost of the bags is $5 each so the grant provided 600 backpacks. That means 16 children received the weekly backpacks for the entire school year.

Was there an unexpected benefit or a special outcome from this grant that you would like to share? Yes

If yes, please explain:

The BackPack Program student surveys were conducted in May 2025 to evaluate the program and collect feedback. BackPack Program administrators were asked to distribute the survey to students in the program; 6 out of 43 active schools participated, and 156 students completed the survey. These are the findings:

• 97% (n=152) of the students indicated they enjoyed receiving food every week from the BackPack Program.
• 78% (n=121) of the students reported they share their backpack food with siblings, parents and friends. This is up 13% from the last survey due primarily to increased food costs and the need to stretch food budgets
Parents were also asked about their experience. 241 parents in 8 out of the 43 active schools responded. These are the results from their survey:
• 81% (n=194) of parents expressed being very satisfied or satisfied with the program.
• 71% (n=170) of parents indicated that the food provided lasts through the weekend.

We distributed 264,540 backpacks to 13,199 children in Sarasota County.
