How was the money used?

The $5,000 grant was fully spent as requested in our original grant application to support the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Program, which serves children ages 4–18 who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. Funds were used to provide therapeutic interventions and peer-to-peer support, facilitated by master’s-level counselors. This included both group sessions for children and support sessions for caregivers, helping families navigate grief together.

These funds enabled children to develop skills to recognize and express their emotions, process grief, and cope with life’s challenges, while caregivers learned strategies to support their children effectively. The grant also helped cover individual and family counseling sessions as needed, ensuring tailored support for each child’s unique experience of loss.

As a result, children gained tools to manage grief in healthy ways, reducing the risk of negative outcomes such as depression, anxiety, substance use, academic decline, and other impacts of unresolved trauma. The $5,000 was spent exactly as outlined in our grant application, directly supporting the program’s mission of providing accessible, evidence-based grief care to children and families.

How many people were impacted by this grant?

As stated in our grant application, this funding directly impacted approximately 25 children and 20 caregivers who participated in bi-weekly group support sessions through the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Program. This represents an estimated financial investment of $111 per person.
