UnidosNow’s mission is to elevate the quality of life of the growing Hispanic/Latino community in the Manatee and Sarasota region through education, integration and civic engagement.

What do you believe we can provide your organization?
The grant will support our Future Leaders Academy for Middle Schoolers (FLAM) program, which improves postsecondary readiness for low-income, first-generation Hispanic students in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.
What will the grant be used for?
The funds will allow for program management and the delivery of engaging workshops/ activities, which will equip students and their parents with the necessary resources and skills to smoothly transition to high school. These opportunities will enhance academic success and empower students to reach their full potential. The specific goals of the FLAM program are to help low-income, Hispanic middle school students gain skills for academic success and course selection for middle school and beyond; prepare them for high school, including post-secondary path exploration; explore careers, including those in STEAM; and to gain life and transitional skills for success in middle school and high school. Our outcome measures include the following key performance indicators:
1. Academic success
# of students who report an improvement in their grades at the end of the school year
# of students who report increased confidence in their transition to high school (for 8th graders)
2. Career and post-secondary path exploration
# of students who have a career or college goal
# of students who report increased career awareness and the education required to get there
# of students who report continued or new engagement with an extracurricular activity
3. Life skills
# of students who possess effective communication and social skills as observed by staff
